This is a very headcanon and alternate universe based indie portrayal of the demon emporer Mundus from the classic Devil May Cry series. As I wanted a different reason other than Sparda and his descendants to have him appear in the human world again, this account will be heavily linked to my DMC OC, Night. This bio will feature a brief idea of the headcanons and AU rather than the official canon information found on the wikia.Mundus' Wikia

Early LifeMundus was born in the most frigid parts of the Underworld during the reign of the "Second King of the Curse".Though it means little to him, he is a descendant of King Meroduk, the first King of the Underworld hailed as the King of Gods in old texts, his power to create worlds something he inherited from his ancestor.Though he was powerful and enigmatic, Mundus was far from the leader he sought to be, seen as no more than a mouthy and idealistic soldier when he confronted the king of the time and demanded to know why they were doing nothing to break the curse. After a brief and failed attempt to take the throne against the advice of his comrade Sparda, Mundus was taken back to the realm of his birth and forced to take on a human form by his mentor of the time; a general by the name of Thraustil.Thrau was regarded as an eccentric, but was widely respected among his ranks despite his insistence on using a human form in battle, believing that all great leaders had to be capable of commanding respect even when they appeared weak in the eyes of others, and what was weaker in the eyes of a demon than a human at the time?Thrau taught Mundus how to control his power and gave him the skills necessary to become the leader he knew their kind needed, but ultimately Thrau would find himself succumbing to the curse shortly before Mundus could ascend to the throne.Thrau entrusted his wish to see their kind freed of the need to feed on humans to both Mundus and Sparda, insisting that Mundus kill and consume him to take his power, something Mundus did with great hesitation. The WarsMundus rose to the challenge and took the throne of the Underworld from his predecessor, but he'd spent no more than a decade in power before Argosax the Chaos started the first war against him.At the time, their power was evenly matched and left the Underworld divided between the two. It remained this way for centuries, Mundus taking this time to recover so he could seek out the Guardians of the Vie du Marli to challenge their leader and break the curse.Upon his arrival in the human world however, he was met with the realization that Argosax had somehow secured some sort of rule over the very people he sought there, thus sparking the second war between the kings and his first engagement with humans at the time.It was during this second war that Sparda turned against Mundus and had him sealed away in the statue within the vault of Mallet Island, his only reprieve the brief summoning of him on the cult island of Exsecratus Isle.Post Mallet IslandMundus was severely weakened after his battle with Dante on Mallet Island, but as Dante himself had recognized after the fight, the demon emperor did not perish at his hand.Rather than succumbing to his injuries, Mundus was left in a sort of stasis in a place between the human and demon worlds; a place he called "Limbo".Through this space between the realms, Mundus was able to recover his strength and monitor both worlds with as little or as much influence as he could muster with his returning strength. The only drawback to being in "Limbo" was that a demon as powerful as himself in recovery can only be in that realm in a human form, thus he's had to shed his demonic form and take on the skin of a human.Though he has recovered greatly and is more than capable of killing any demons that cross his path, he is cautious about his approach to the descendants of Sparda for the time being, his main objective being not to destroy them, but rather to locate his illegitimate son born of a human woman he'd once met when he'd been summoned and essentially trapped in a cult that worshipped him at her insistence. His initial intention is to take his sons power after the cambion has eaten the fruit of the tree to amplify his own power, though his drive at this time is NOT to seek and destroy the sons of Sparda.Granted that he has been at war with others of his kind for millennia, he intends to use any power he gains to either win the war once and for all, or to break the curse on his kind, whichever would come first.Future TimelineIn the future timeline, Mundus resides on the island Night was born on, Execratus Isle, after the demise of Night's mother and Mundus' victory over and subsequent consumption of Argosax the Chaos. In this timeline, the curse has been lifted, and Mundus uses the islands remote location to keep all the demonic relics and gates housed within it from the remnants of the cult out of human hands, allowing it to become the hunting grounds for his kind. Any humans that dare set foot on the island are subject to a "trial" of sorts; escape and keep your life, or be caught and consumed. After his victory over and consumption of Argosax, Mundus develops new power and his true form takes on a more beastial form rather than the writhing mass of tissue it was beneath the stone facade his previous devil trigger used.Other InfoThe mark on his face is only present while he makes use of his human skin, the mark itself a curse of Sparda's own making that serves two distinct purposes.First, the mark will burn in the presence of Sparda's power simply to cause discomfort and remind Mundus of his loss. The second is in the simple fact that it renders Mundus unable to consume humans, and should he do so, he would become violently ill and end up in extreme pain until he expelled what he consumed.--Further expansion on AU concept found by clicking button below!

This section contains the headcanon and alternate universe based story I have tacked onto the canon we have about Mundus and his rule over the Underworld. The story is meant to dive deeper into the canon in way that both expands on it and allows for further exploration via role playing with others. It is, as I've stated, heavily headcanon based stemming from the canon info we have at this time, so please bear that in mind while reading.

Two millennia ago, the Devil Prince Mundus was born into the depths of the Demon World as it snowed in the Human World, and quickly rose to power. After building a great army and immense power due to consuming the powerful Qliphoth fruit, he slew the previous Demon King and took the title for himself. After this period, a devil god named Argosax appeared and challenged Mundus' rule, waging a war against the Prince of Darkness. This great war eventually led to the separation of the Demon World into two sides; one ruled by him, and the other ruled by Argosax. An indeterminate amount of time after this war, Mundus planned to lead an assault on the Human World and conquer the realm for himself, ruling both worlds as one, but Sparda, a powerful demon knight, woke up to justice, leading him to single-handedly defeat both Mundus and his armies, seal away the Demon World, and then seal one of the gates connecting them deep underground. In response, Mundus planned revenge against Sparda's family. His demons attacked and killed Eva, Sparda's wife and the mother of his twin sons.-
This is the story most know of the Demon King Mundus, but what has been left unsaid, was the reason for his intended assault on the human world.
Long prior to Mundus' rule, the demon species was once a part of the human world, fighting in an ageless war against another over power and magic that would force the losing species to learn from the victor. The demon king of the time established a final battle to end them all, challenging the other species leader to that fateful fight and emerging the victor, claiming the power and magic for demon kind and leaving the other to learn from them instead. The other leader conceded defeat, however, rather than honouring the terms set forth before the battle, the leader cursed the demon king and all his brethren, giving up their species immortality to become humans and banishing the demons to the Underworld, their remaining people becoming what is later known as the Guardians of the Vie du Marli. From that day forth, demons would know starvation eternal, unable to die, their only source of relief from the agony of the starvation the consumption of humans now dwelling in a world above them, well beyond their reach at the time.Mundus was born during the reign of the second king of the curse, learning for himself what this Curse of Starvation meant to his kind and deciding he was not going to concede his defeat to something he himself was never part of.Discovering his power dwarfed most around him at an early age, Mundus was able to break through into the world of humans with the help of the Qliphoth, growing and consuming the fruit to challenge the demon king of the time and coming out of the battle victorious, determined to free himself and his kind from the curse the humans lay upon them.Mundus spent the next century rallying his army to plan an attack on the Vie du Marli, his intention to challenge their leader and have their curse removed from all demon kind, but his rallying forces drew the attention of Argosax, forcing him to set aside his plans and engage in war with the demon god.Their battle ended in stalemate, leaving the Underworld divided into two factions; those who served Argosax, and those who served Mundus.Needing time to regain his strength, Mundus again had to shelve his assault on the human world for another century, once again mobilizing his troops to take on the Vie du Marli, only to once more find Argosax in his path, the demon god having somehow secured worship out of those in the Vie du Marli and forcing Mundus to rethink his strategy.During this time while Mundus was constantly at war with Argosax's forces, Sparda took his leave of Mundus' forces to give up his life as a demon for the human world, working against Mundus with the Vie du Marli to seal him away on Mallet Island.Leaving his part of the Underworld lordless, Argosax took what remained while Mundus was left in stasis in the vault beneath the castle of Mallet Island. The only reprieve from this Mundus found in the two thousand years he was sealed away came from a cult that came to worship him on a secluded island north of the island of Fortuna.Their leader raised a statue similar to what lay in the vault of Mallet Island, turning it into a conduit through which Mundus was able to manifest on the secluded isle in a human form only the cult leader was privy to.Having little to no experience with humans aside from the woman leading this cult, Mundus had little to compare the woman too, but he soon found her arrogance irritating and started trying to find a means to resume his plans, sending out his forces to locate and destroy Sparda while he had the opportunity on the cults island. The cult leader disapproved of his dismissal of her and attempted to seal his power so she could use him to control the Underworld and take out Fortuna. When Mundus learned of this, he was insulted by the insinuation that a human could contain him and his power, thus deciding he would make an example of her by reminding her of his power in comparison to that of a mere human with magic. He overpowered her as means to "put her in her place", later giving her what she wanted from him from the start of it all (copulation) under the impression she wasn't biologically compatible with him, believing himself too powerful for her body to successfully produce offspring. The following day, the cult leader retaliated and cut off Mundus' connection to the conduit statue, forcing him back to the statue in the vault of Mallet Island, completely unaware she was pregnant with his son. After his release and subsequent defeat at Dante's hands, Mundus discovered the realm of Limbo, a world between the human and demon worlds that allowed him to recover and monitor both undetected.Several years after the incident in Red Grave, Mundus is made aware of the son the cult leader bore for him and sets out to locate the cambion with the intention of allowing his son to challenge him; the stakes both his son's power and the throne of the Underworld. As the Curse of Starvation has never been lifted, many demons even under Mundus' rule have succumbed to the madness the agony of starvation has caused, but Mundus' lack of contact with the humans outside of the cult that once worshipped him leaves him apathetic and indifferent to the humans plight, seeing them as no more than what humans themselves see as livestock until he can lift the curse.Granted that he himself has not eaten in nearly ten thousand years, Mundus has been significantly weakened from the starvation, dangerously close to losing himself to the madness.

↠ Despite what is known of Mundus' personality, it only speaks to one part of him seen on the battlefield in times of war. Though sadistic in battle, Mundus himself is actually quite calm and values honour above all else.↠ As Mundus has spent so little time among regular humans, his knowledge of human customs is vague at best, leaving him to learn through observation.↠ Like many demons, Mundus had once taken a mate for life, but she was lost in the second war with Argosax. He had no idea she carried his unborn child at the time, and he has not sought a new mate since her passing.

↠ The reason for his disdain for Sparda stems from the fact that Sparda turned on him in a time of war and sided with the very humans responsible for cursing demon kind in the first place, seeing his actions of treason as a dishonour both to him, their creed and their kind.↠ The mark present on Mundus' face is only visible while in human form. It was left behind by Sparda when he sealed Mundus away in the statue. The mark itself burns in the presence of Sparda and those carrying his blood, but it also serves a curse lain by Sparda to ensure that Mundus could never consume humans again.

Mundus' general view of humans is that of indifference. He neither hates nor cares for humans, seeing them as little more than humans see their own livestock until he can find the means to break the curse of starvation on his kind. His indifference stems from a lack of engagement and interaction with humans outside of the brief time he spent engaging them in the field of battle during the second war, and most of his understanding comes from what little he's managed to gleam from the time he spent observing humans from within the realm of Limbo. He's not unwilling to listen and learn, having been forced to pull himself from the front lines of battle, so he is much calmer and willing to talk should humans wish to speak to him of various things be they human or demonic concepts.Mundus, like most demons of his calibre and even many of the lesser, is not incapable of learning and adapting to human culture, the sheer fact that he's learned to speak in a human tongue a testament to his willingness to do just that.Though he does see humans as physically weaker than demons, he doesn't believe such from an arrogant point view, merely in the sense that demons are truly physically stronger than humans, but he wouldn't dismiss human power on its own when it was human power that cursed his kind in the first place.

↠ Above, appearance when using power after consuming Argosax the Chaos

↠ Below, Devil Trigger appearance

↠ Below, Devil Trigger appearance after consuming Argosax the Chaos

Skilled Hand-to-Hand CombatantSwordsmanshipMarksmanship: Done without the use of guns, though he can use them if he gets his hands on them.Keen Intellect: Despite his nature, Mundus is actually incredibly intelligent. Though his actions may appear brash and without any further thought beyond a need for blood lust, a great deal of planning goes into all he does. This is especially prevalent after his defeat at Dante's hands.Superhuman Strength: As with any demon, Mundus possesses incredible raw physical strength even while in human form. He is able to easily shatter stone, overpower demons much larger and more imposing than himself and lift objects or beings far greater in weight without showing much strain. His superhuman strength, endurance and resistance to injury shows that his physical condition is much tougher and more efficient than that of even most of the powerful demons, allowing him to exert his supernaturally enhanced muscle power to vast proportions without fear of injury or fatigue.Superhuman Speed: Mundus is super-humanly fast without the use of teleportation (however that is a skill he possess). His reflexes allow him to dodge dodge things such as speeding bullets, oncoming attacks from demons and even speeding vehicles (slice them, shoot them out of the air, catch them with his teeth, etc).Superhuman Agility: Despite his size, Mundus is extremely agile as well; able to jump to great heights or even balance himself on precarious objects or thin wires and run up vertical walls. Additionally he can perform incredible acrobatics even in midair.Superhuman Stamina: Given his status as a full blooded demon king, Mundus does not tire easily even in his human form, however, as with all demons, he can be worn down to the point he needs to retreat to recover.Superhuman Durability: Mundus' durability allows him to recover almost immediately from wounds that would either disable or kill a normal human being or even other demons. Things such as being impaled through the chest or shot in the head, withstanding Hellfire and lightning strikes or being decapitated are all things he can recover from with almost no signs of injury.Accelerated Healing: Much like other demons, Mundus' body can heal even the most serious of wounds almost immediately depending on the severity.Telekinesis: Mundus does have some measure of demonstrable telekinetic abilities, capable of manipulating both people and objects with enough focus.Demonic Energy Manipulation: As with all demons, Mundus is able to channel his demonic energies into various physical objects, ranging from his weapons to the air itself.-Additionally he is capable of projecting extremely powerful demonic energy. He can fire red energy needles from his eyes, hands, or back that are strong enough to cause even Dante pain. By charging large amount of energy into his third eye, Mundus can fire a powerful beam of white energy.-Aside from using his power to enhance objects or the space around him, Mundus can also create weapons made of pure, red, demonic energy if the need arises.Demon Creation: Mundus is capable of creating powerful demons, as he was the one who created Trish, Nightmare, Leviathan, Blades, Assaults, and Frosts.Demon Manipulation: As the demon emperor, Mundus has control over most, if not all demons in existence, to suit his needs.Universe Creation: Mundus is powerful enough to create a universe filled with stars and at least one planetoid.Mind Manipulation: Mundus is capable of suppressing one's memories and altering one's personalities to make them serve him.Power Augmentation: Mundus can enhance the powers and abilities of chosen individuals.Orb Summoning: Mundus can summon orbs for various purposes. He has dark grey ones that generate a force field to protect him from attacks or that he can fire at an enemy. He has smaller white ones that can fire white energy needles.Electrical Manipulation: Mundus is capable of summoning lightning from the sky at an enemy.Magma Manipulation: Mundus displays the ability to summon dragons made of lava that can spit fireballs.Stone/Earth Manipulation: Mundus can summon meteors to rain down from the sky or to hurl large boulders at his enemy.Air/Gas Manipulation: Another notable ability of Mundus' is the ability to change the molecular structure of the air around him. He uses this ability to render others unconscious or kill them through means of suffocation depending on the situation.Devil Trigger: With his new human form, Mundus' demon skin now acts as a sort of Devil Trigger he can use at will.
